CNY 2008 Photo Competition

The London Chinatown Chinese Association has organised a Chinese New Year photo competition to capture the spirit and splendour of the London Chinese New Year celebrations, in London’s Chinatown, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square on 10th February 2008.
If you were the photographers, your shots could win you one of 6 fabulous prizes. All registered users will also have a chance to win a ‘Special Voter Prize’.

Prizes will be awarded to the best photos which include:
- First Prize : 2 return economy tickets * to the dazzling city of Hong Kong (or China); a city where East meets West and old meets new, courtesy of Cathay Pacific. (*Departure in off peak season only. Other terms and conditions may apply).
- Second Prize: 1 return economy flight ticket to Hong Kong (or China), courtesy of Cathay Pacific.*
- Third Prize: 2 return economy Eurostar tickets to Paris, courtesy of Jade Travel.
- Fourth Prize: 2 vouchers (each worth £100) for meal, sponsored by Imperial China Restaurant.
- Fifth Prize: 10 vouchers (each worth £20) sponsored by See Woo Foods for buying goods at See Woo supermarkets.

Rating System
- Registration is required before users can rate photos. Voting starts on Tuesday 26th February and ends at 18:00 on Sunday 9th March 2008.
- View photos and rate each one according to the scale of 1 - 10 stars.
- The most popular photo determined by the number of stars received will win the "Most Popular Photo" Prize.
- An additional "Special Voter Prize" will be awarded to a registered user who has voted AND left a comment for the photo that wins the overall competition. In the likely event that more than one person has voted for the winning photo, a lucky draw will take place to decide the "Special Voter Prize" winner. Entrants are not allowed to vote for their own photos.
- A total of 50 most voted photos (but no more than THREE photos per entrant) will go through to the finals for judging.
- The finals will take place on Friday evening of 28th March 2008 in London where a panel of judges will decide who should be the winners. The results will be published via Dragon Page Media by 29th March 2008 the latest.
Competition Rules- The London Chinese New Year Celebration 2008 Photography Competition is organized by the London Chinatown Chinese Association, in association with Dragon Page Media, and sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd.
- The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers aged 18 years or over.
- The competition is open to all visitors. However, only residents in the UK are eligible for the prizes.
- Photographers can enter an unlimited number of images, which must have been taken at the London Chinatown
Chinese New Year celebrations in Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, London Chinatown and the surrounding area on Sunday 10th February 2008.
- All entries must be the solitary work of the photographer and should not have been published for profit at the time of entry before, during and after the competition.
- It is the entrant's responsibility to ensure that all the necessary permissions (full copyright, including image and reproduction rights) are obtained from any people or business featured in their photograph(s).
- Each digital photo should be no larger than 1.9MB (1600x1200 pixels) and must be supplied in JPG format. Please do not place any text or watermarks on the photographs.
- The photographic image must not be subject to manipulation. London Chinatown Chinese Association and Dragon Page Media, and the judges reserve the right to exclude any image that they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.
- Please retain the original digital file/negative for reference; it may be required to prove that it is your own work and in the event that additional prints or digital copies are required.
- All entries into the competition must be suitable for publication on websites and in exhibitions and therefore appropriate for a general audience. The London Chinatown Chinese Association and Dragon Page Media reserve the right to reject any photograph on the grounds of illegality, infringement of any third party rights, the subject matter being offensive or contrary to standards of taste and decency, or on any other ground that it may from time to time consider inappropriate. This decision to accept or reject an entry is final and no correspondence will be entered in to.
- All photographic competition entries must be uploaded by the closing date stated on the website or posted to ‘Photo Competition, LCCA, 5 Newport Place, London WC2H 7JN’. No responsibility will be taken for any problems with the postal service. No Email entries will be accepted. Postal entries should be either in hard copy or on CD and should include the entrant’s name, email address and contact telephone number. Please note that entries will not be returned. All postal submissions can be uploaded by the Dragon Page Media team on behalf of the entrant in order to facilitate voting for all offline material submitted to competition, if those participating photographers have no internet access.
- After the submission for material period is closed (please see dates below), an online voting period will open. At the end of that online voting period the London Chinatown Chinese Association and Dragon Page Media will pre-select the 50 most voted photographs, considering a maximum of 3 submissions per person. The pre-selected photographs will be submitted to a panel of judges selected by London Chinatown Chinese Association.
- Prizes as listed on the website will be awarded to the most voted five photos by the selected panel of judges.
- The Most Popular Photograph will be determined by the number of rating points (stars) received online and will receive a prize sponsored by Dragon Page Media. This prize is separate to the Top Five Prizes awarded by the judges. The Most Popular Photograph will also be eligible for consideration for one of the five “Best Photograph” entries.
- An additional "Special Voter Prize" sponsored by Dragon Page Media will be awarded to a registered user that has voted AND left a comment for the photo that wins the overall competition. In the event which is very likely that more than one person has voted for the winning photo, a lucky draw will take place to decide the "Special Voter Prize" winner. Entrants are not allowed to vote for any photos taken by themselves.
- The London Chinatown Chinese Association and Dragon Page Media reserve the right not to award some or all of the prizes. Details of the winners will be posted on the London Chinatown Chinese Association website www.chinatownchinese.co.uk and Dragon Page Media website – www.dragonpagemedia.com. The winners will also be contacted by Dragon Page Media via email and telephone in relation to their prize collection arrangements. A cash alternative to prizes is not available.
- The Judges decision will be final and no correspondence before or after the competition is permitted.
- Your personal information will be held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. The information that you have provided will be used by London Chinatown Chinese Association and Dragon Page Media and its competition partners for the purposes of managing the competition. Your personal information will not be shared with any third party. Occasionally we are asked to provide copies of the photographs by other organizations for publication. Should any photographs be released, we will supply your name for crediting purposes but no other personal data.
- Copyright of entered images will rest with the photographer. Entry into the Competition however will permit unrestricted use of the photos by London Chinatown Chinese Association and Dragon Page Media and its agencies for any purpose (for example in publicity material). Images will, where possible, carry the photographer’s credit. London Chinatown Chinese Association and Dragon Page Media reserve the right to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, mechanically or electronically the entries from the competition for non-commercial use.
- Staff of the London Chinatown Chinese Association, Dragon Page Media, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, and their immediate families, are not permitted to enter the competition.
- The closing deadline for submission of photo is at 23:59 on Monday 25th February 2008. If submitted by post, all materials must reach London Chinatown Chinese Association on the same day at 17:00.
- Online voting will be open from Tuesday 26th February until 18:00 on Sunday 9th March 2008.
- A final decision of which 50 photos to go to finals will be communicated via the Dragon Page Media website by 12:00 noon on Monday 17th March 2008.
- The finals will take place on Friday evening of 28th March 2008 in London where a panel of judges will decide who should be the winners. The results will be published via Dragon Page Media by 29th March 2008 the latest.
- By entering this photo competition, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules. Any non-compliance will lead to immediate disqualification.
